I have a question ?
In the explanation of megvan in essential verbs.
It is said to mean ……to be found, to be revealed. Yet here it means exists……is there a reason for this difference ?
Köszönöm
Brian.
Szia Brian,
thank you for your question – it’s a good one!
You are right, there is this 2nd meaning to “megvan” which is not specified in our most important Hungarian verbs.
In general, “van” means “to exist”, “to be” as you surely know.
In most cases, “megvan” will mean “to be found” or “revealed”, as you’ve read in our handout about the most important verbs.
Here, however, the “meg” rather enhances the existence of the beauty of each face.
Hungarian prefixes can be very versatile and subtle so it’s good that you’re asking. I hope this helps a little.
Please let us know if you have any other questions!
Best,
Juli
Köszönöm a segítségedre.
