Ebédre finomat főzni akartam,
ezért a vásárba elsétáltam,
de tele volt a csarnok tömeggel,
nem sikerült vásárolnom reggel,
hát csak kolbászt és krumplit ettem;
de nem komoly – azokat is szerettem;
akár divatban, akár egyszerű,
minden étel lehet nagyszerű,
ha örömmel eszed jókedvű.
Szia Bertil,
köszönjük! fantasztikus! 🙂
I don’t even want to point out anything because it’ll destroy the rhyme… but here we go, a few minor remarks:
(1) A place unfortunately cannot be full of a crowd, there can only be a crowd, so you would rather say “de tömeg volt a csarnokban”
(2) “akár divatban, akár egyszerűEN” – “either in style or just easily” – I would use the adverb of “egyszerű” here.
(3) the same with the last line: “ha örömmel eszed és jókedvűen” if you eat it in a good mood; in a “good-mooded way”
Hope this helps. But as I said, it’s great as it is! 🙂
Best,
Juli
Thank you so much for commenting kindly and patiently and pointing out the problems, some of which I was sort aware of. Now to salvage the rhymes, how would it be if I changed the third ungrammatical line “de tele volt a csarnok tömeggel” into a more grammatical one, yet retaining “tömeggel”, and for the sake of the metre and cohesion add one syllable at the beginning of line four? Thus, e.g.,
a csarnokba érkeztem nagy tömeggel,
szó/így nem sikerült vásárolnom reggel
Then, as for “akár divatban, akár egyszerű, / minden étel lehet nagyszerű…”, I was thinking about adjectives defining food. I wanted to write “divatban való” or “divatos” ‘fashionable/fancy’ (vs. “egyszerű” ‘simple/common’), but való destroyed the metre and “divatos” was not the given term. As for “jókedvű”, I suppose it could be salvaged by adding the verb “vagy” before it. Anyway, as you can see, I wanted to say something like ‘whether fashionable/fancy or simple/common, all food can be excellent, if you eat it with joy, being in good mood.’
So, how if I change the last three lines as follows, as I would like to maintain the rhyme?
akár divatban való (divatos), akár egyszerű,
minden étel lehet nagyszerű,
ha örömmel eszed és vagy jókedvű.
or switching clauses:
minden étel lehet nagyszerű,
akár divatban való (divatos), akár egyszerű,
ha örömmel eszed és vagy jókedvű.
Aren’t style and fashion the same thing? Sometimes when I miss a word it appears it’s because I’m not on point with my English.
